| Dark Sector interview with David Kudirka: no PC version and no movie ...
David Kudirka: First of all, what gives specificity to the game is the use of the Glaive. It is truly a unique weapon. You have to sometimes use it in combination with fire-arms, but you must also use its new capabilities, acquired during the game, in order to create new styles of combat. That changes a lot compared to a simple shooter. And as you advance through the game you'll find more weapons and more ammunition. Moreover, with the Glaive [attached to his body], the hero himself is like a weapon. So he evolves and becomes stronger, which is a very interesting element in a game that wanted to be very open. JF: During the presentation we've seen a lot of intermediary sequences. Their proportion seemed quite important. Just to provoke you a bit, we're just tempted to say if there's any room left for gameplay between two cinematics...
High-tech tinkerers on the rise
For years, hackers and garage hobbyists have pried the covers off their gadgets, cobbled together computers out of components, or built other electronics from scratch. But today, even people who can't tell a resistor from a capacitor are finding new opportunities to tinker as the do-it-yourself spirit of the Web branches into the physical world. Not long ago, people who wanted to set up a Web page, blog, or upload video needed to know a little about programming; today, just about anyone can be up and running in an hour. Now, start-up companies and electronics kit makers are trying to bring the same kind of easy tinkering to the physical world amid calls for more openness. Last summer, when the Apple iPhone was unlocked so that it would work on networks other than AT&T's, a spotlight shined on the hacker who did it.
Play nice with non-Mac volumes
Unlike the “classic" Mac OS, OS X does Windows. Out of the box, you can easily connect to Windows servers and shares. However, as any Windows-centric IT person will tell you—vehemently—OS X isn't necessarily the best neighbor in the Network Neighborhood. Every time you access a remote Windows share (or an NFS volume), Mac OS X leaves behind .DS_Store detritus—files that are useful, but invisible, to Mac OS X while being useless, and completely visible, to Windows users. In addition, if you copy a file with a Mac OS resource fork to a non-Mac volume, that resource fork is copied as a second file; for example, if an image named IMG_0995.JPG has a Finder thumbnail—which resides in the file's resource fork—copying that image to a non-HFS volume will result in two files being created on the volume: IMG_0995.JPG and ._IMG_0995.JPG .
Cathy Sorbo: Ahead of the curve on good changes
Marlowe Harris, one of the P-I real estate bloggers, sent me a blurb about something new to try on New Year's Day. It involves wearing a tacky tracksuit and donning a bad wig. There is a meet-up at Green Lake, and the track-suited, wig-wearing mob enjoys a nice walk around the lake en masse. Or there's always the Polar Bear Dip, whereby one relaxes in the 44-degree waters of the Puget Sound with others. I opted for the less public and much warmer option, the New Year's Resolution. This year, I have two. The first one is to delete, without guilt, any self-esteem themed e-mails, especially if it is required that I forward it to all my female friends in order for a wish to come true. Throughout the year I received this type of egospam, and last month I received an e-mail that had an especially massive list of "feel good about yourself no matter what" missives.

As soon as that yellow came out, Burton came on the radio and said, This is not good, said Rocky Ryan, Burtons spotter. Burton tried the same ploy again on the final restart, lagging back hoping to keep second-place Kyle Busch from building momentum to lead line of cars past him. But as Burton went low to defend against Busch, Stewart, eventual race-winner Ryan Newman and Kurt Busch led a charge in the outside lane and Burton wound up in the middle. Going backward. I havent watched a replay of it, Burton said, but I know what happened. I played it over and over and over in my mind. ...Ill be honest, I felt stupid. ...We were leading the race with three to go and you finish 13th, why wouldnt you feel stupid? But all you can do is the best you know how to do. On the plane ride back to North Carolina, Burton tried to console Harrison.
