As fair opens, toy makers stress value
A year ago, parents readily splurged on their kids' toys — and the industry unleashed fancy, pricey playthings. Hasbro brought out a talking parrot for $69.99, Spinmaster a transforming robot-helicopter for $110 — and Zizzle a pinball machine, complete with lights and sound effects, for $350. This year, parents dealing with debt, higher energy costs and housing trouble are more reserved — and are likely to opt for budget-friendly toys that lend themselves to long-lasting play, experts say. At the American International Toy Fair, which starts Sunday, manufacturers will emphasize “good play," said Chris Byrne, an independent toy trendspotter for thetoyguy.com. .
Simmermon: Photos lack purpose
What was once used to preserve a memory or leave a legacy to pass down through generations has now turned into an egocentric, self-absorbed facefest. The idea of picture taking has made many unique transformations since the first cameras were invented. .
LL Continues Her Walk Down Pre-Rehab Memory Lane
Lindsay and her leggings were reunited yesterday but not for long. Also missing in action is her boy Riley. We don't blame her for wanting a little break after taking him home for Thanksgiving, especially if he were acting like a jerk. In fact, LL may already be weighing her other options. Apparently she was spotted leaving Matsuhisa restaurant on Wednesday just a few minutes after her ex (and Mary-Kate's, and Paris'), Stavros Niarchos, walked out. Of course, this could just be a coincidence, or a friendly meal. From Samantha to Stavros in one night, LL seems to be reconnecting with some of her old friends. Those two might not be the best influences, but we are starting to think Riley's days are numbered. More of LL in her dark ensemble, so just read more .

Ahh, we're entering the parallel universe known as Spring Training once again. But more than just presenting a version of the game so very different from its midseason form, the Grapefruit and Cactus leagues also showcase an assortment of ballparks that are worlds removed from their regular-season counterparts. And within each of these little gems fans find at least one unexpected design flourish or object of local pride that signifies the park is a seamhead haven unlike any other. This Travel Ten is dedicated to the most unusual of these Spring Training ballpark eccentricities those finishing touches that give spring wanderers occasion to pause and say, "You won't see that in the big leagues." Here are 10 favorite ballpark quirks for fans to marvel at (listed randomly, with Florida fields first, followed by those in Arizona): 1.
Santa Fe School District Adopts Wireless LAN from Meru Networks
In addition, schools have a habit of moving things around every year as their population is reconfigured. It's much easier and cheaper to move the lab down the hall if we don't have wires and cables to worry about. We expect our initial investment in wireless to be more than offset by what we save in making these frequent moves and changes." After Installing Meru, "All the problems went away" Before deciding on Meru, Phaklides's technology team had evaluated numerous wireless LAN products and deployed pilot networks from some of the industry's biggest names without success. "They were having tremendous interference issues in trying to use their web-based learning software with more than a few students at a time," recalled Jack Vigil, CEO of Albuquerque-based Harmonix Technologies, a Meru reseller partner.
