Chris Rock

In a set full of topical material, Rock began with the Democrat presidential primaries and found rich pickings. The face-off between black man and white woman, says Rock, is like a suffering contest. Which oppressed group most deserves a crack at the presidency? This black man won't concede first prize to anyone ("Seabiscuit had a better life than my granddaddy"). But he manages to tread the line between shameless provocation (he suggests that "Barack needs a white woman", because no black woman could be submissive enough to be first lady) and neat new perspective. To what extent is a former presidential wife's claim on "experience" justified, given that "I've been married 10 years, and if my wife came onstage now, y'all would not laugh"?

The politics material devolved into good, but predictable George Bush jokes and an unfortunate gag that seemed to consider US casualties as the worst thing about the Iraq war.

Gilmore's gold in first round

WORLD champion Stephanie Gilmore swooped into the new season as the pacesetter in round 1 of the Roxy Pro surfing tournament on the Gold Coast yesterday.

The 20-year-old Snapper Rocks board rider posted 15.84 points, the day's top heat score, which included the best ride in good 1.2m waves at Duranbah Beach.

Gilmore was the outstanding surfer of the 2008 world tour launch, beating 15-year-old Hawaiian prodigy and Roxy Trials winner Carissa Moore.

She said she was relieved to finally don a contest shirt after a blur of commitments as world champion.

"It's been a bit crazy with all the awards and activities and stuff, but it felt good to get back in the water," Gilmore said.

"I guess I was a bit rusty at the beginning, but I started gaining more and more confidence throughout the heat and felt pretty good by the end."

Local knowledge helped Gilmore pick the best waves and take command of the heat.

The death of Chicago news anchor Randy Salerno is receiving national attention after a snowmobile accident in Vilas County. The 45-year old Salerno died January 24 after a crash near Sayner. The driver he was riding with, Scott Hirschey is now facing charges of homicide by intoxicated use of a vehicle. A criminal complaint says Hirschey's blood alcohol level was .22% four hours after the crash. The legal limit to drive in Wisconsin is .08.

So far this season 15 people have died in snowmobile accidents in Wisconsin - and alcohol is believed to have been a factor in 10 of those 15 deaths.

Whenever the topic of drinking and snowmobiling comes up - fingers point in lots of different directions. Should there be stricter laws and stiffer penalties? Should there be more authorities patrolling the trails? Can we blame the bartenders who serve the drinks? Or is it a matter of personal responsiblity - resting entirely on the shoulders of those who drink and drive? Maybe think drinking and snowmobiling isn't a problem at all.

Sure, sure, it's all been done before, but now I get to do it. Without further ado, here is my all-name team. 20 - Rod Smart - Who the Hell is Rod Smart you ask? Well he is none other than the fool who called himself "He Hate Me" and pretty much epitomized the debacle that was the XFL. 19. Elbert L. "Ickey" Woods - Running back his entire carreer for the Bengals. Hey, how many guys not named Humpty Hump have a dance named after them. The Ickey Shuffle remains high on the all time celebrations list. 18. "Chocolate Thunder" Darryl Dawkins - Perhaps more appropriate for wrestling or porn, but still has a nice ring to it. 17. "Pistol" Pete Maravich - LSU grad was a known practicioner of yoga, a part time ufologist, and could also play a little basketball. Died of a heart attack in 1988 at a young age.

Hornets frustrated in stalemate

I think that Henderson has and will continue to be an asset to the team and would be the perfect substitute to have and bring on towards the end of a game and could possibly win us games through doing this. I'm sorry if I have offended anyone by talking positively of Nathan Ellington and I look forward to hearing your views and opinions and recieving your thoughts/abuse. .
